Mini Tutorial – Making Realistic Teeth for Needle Felting

Whether you're crafting expressive dolls or lifelike animals, realistic teeth can bring your felted creations to life. 

Needle Felted Teeth

Materials Needed:

• White wool (Sliver, batt or tops)
• Fine felting needle (38 or 40 gauge)
• Optional: pink wool for gums
• Optional: white polymer clay or modelling wax

Steps:

1. Shape the Teeth Pull off tiny tufts of white wool. Roll into small cylinders or rectangles depending on the tooth style (rounded for molars, tapered for canines). Felt gently to firm them up, keeping edges smooth.
2. Refine the Shape Use your needle to sculpt corners and curves. Add slight indentations or ridges for realism. You can make a full row or individual teeth. Leave a fluffy, unfelted base to help anchor them into the mouth.
3. Create the Gum Line (Optional) Add a thin layer of pink wool at the base and felt lightly to blend. This adds depth and realism.
4. Attach to Mouth Area Position the teeth inside the mouth or jaw of your felted figure. Felt them in place using shallow pokes around the base. If embedding into a sculpted mouth, leave a small gap to tuck the teeth in.
5. Add Final Details Define separation between teeth or add subtle shading with a tiny bit of beige or grey wool.

Tip: You can also make teeth from air-drying or oven-baked clay and varnish them for shine. Or add wax to your wool teeth for a firmer, glossy finish.
